Overview

Why the Chinese language gets harder at secondary level

At secondary level, the Chinese language moves at a different pace. Passages grow longer and denser, essays demand a genuine argument and a clear structure, and the oral examination rewards students who can think and speak on their feet.

Plenty of teenagers find this stage daunting, especially when English is the language they live in outside the classroom. They recognise the vocabulary on the page, yet it rarely comes out smoothly when they have to write or speak.

That is exactly the gap we close. Each skill is taken apart and rebuilt in manageable pieces, students learn to read a question through the examiner’s eyes, and we rehearse until the right approach feels automatic.

The result we are after is straightforward: a composed, well-drilled student who sits the O-Level Chinese paper knowing precisely what to do.

What we teach

What our secondary Chinese tuition covers

We build every part of the language, with a strong focus on writing.

Composition (作文)

The centre of our work. Students learn to plan an essay, build it into a coherent argument and enrich it with precise vocabulary, so the writing carries weight rather than padding.

Situational writing (应用文)

From emails to formal notices, every task has its own conventions. We drill the format, the register and the content each one calls for, so nothing is left to guesswork in the exam.

Comprehension (理解)

Close reading, done with intent. Students learn to locate the answer, justify it clearly and condense a passage into a tight, accurate summary.

Oral and e-oral (口试)

Reading aloud and the video-based conversation both take practice, not luck. Regular rehearsal builds fluent delivery and the composure to keep a discussion going.

Listening (听力)

Exam-style audio, used often, sharpens the ear, from brief announcements to extended passages that test real concentration.

Higher Chinese (高级华文)

Students sitting Higher Chinese take on richer texts and more searching writing tasks, with the extra support to match.

Know the exam

The O-Level Chinese exam, explained

The GCE O-Level Chinese paper has four components, and we prepare students thoroughly for every one.

Paper 1

Writing

One piece of situational writing and one composition. We concentrate on sharp planning, a clear line of thought and language that does real work.

Paper 2

Comprehension

Passages and questions that reward careful reading. We train students to answer precisely and in full, leaving no easy marks behind.

Paper 3

Listening

A series of recorded clips followed by questions. Frequent, timed practice builds the focus this section demands.

Paper 4

Oral

Students read a passage aloud, then hold a conversation on a given topic. We polish pronunciation, pacing and the confidence to speak naturally.

Every level

Tuition for every secondary level

We meet your child where they are, then move them forward.

📗
Sec 1 to Sec 2

Lower Secondary Chinese

We shore up the fundamentals and instil good habits early, giving students a firm footing before the demands of the upper years.

🎓
Sec 3 to Sec 5

Upper Secondary and O-Level

The O-Level takes centre stage. Every lesson hones writing, comprehension, oral and listening, and rehearses exam technique until it is second nature.

📚
Higher Chinese

Higher Chinese (高级华文)

Dedicated support for the more demanding syllabus, with tougher texts and more ambitious writing.
